Vote for Something: Turning Personal Values into Votes

In 2024, amidst rising voter distrust and political anxiety, State Voices launched the “Vote for Something” campaign to reframe voting as an empowering act of hope and community building. By connecting voting to personal values and a vision for the future, the campaign aimed to inspire action not out of fear, but from a shared desire to create meaningful change.

CHALLENGE

Battling Voter Apathy and Anxiety

With distrust in the electoral process at an all-time high, voters were overwhelmed by negativity and a lack of connection to the issues that mattered most. The challenge was to transform this cynicism into motivation and make voting feel personal, impactful, and essential to shaping a hopeful future.

APPROACH

Bold, Customizable Engagement

Fenton worked with State Voices to develop a visually striking and emotionally resonant campaign identity. The “Vote for Something” campaign invited individuals and organizations to personalize their own “Vote for” messages, using vibrant templates and assets distributed across social media, email, websites, and in-person events. This approach empowered advocates to align the campaign with their communities’ unique priorities and values, fostering inclusivity and engagement. The creative approach was unapologetically unique, cutting through the noise with a message of optimism and possibility.

IMPACT

A Groundswell of Values-Based Voting

The campaign achieved unprecedented results, mobilizing diverse audiences across the State Voices network. It played a key role in registering 800,000 new voters, making over 250 million voter contacts, and encouraging 100,000 people to plan their vote. To ensure inclusivity and accessibility, we designed some campaign collateral in Spanish, broadening the campaign’s reach to engage Spanish-speaking communities effectively. Beyond the numbers, “Vote for Something” sparked a cultural and narrative shift, positioning voting as a hopeful practice of collective action and personal empowerment that continues to inspire future outreach efforts.
