RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association

Shaping the Narrative About IVF Access Post-Dobbs

After the Alabama Supreme Court ruling paused IVF treatments in 2023, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association turned to Fenton for a comprehensive advocacy and storytelling campaign. Fenton quickly mobilized to position RESOLVE as the leader in the narrative, generating over 240 unique stories and 6,300 media hits in just two weeks. Our efforts, including statements, op-eds, and a press conference, led to nationwide coverage in major outlets like the New York Times and CNN. This media attention played a crucial role in passing stop-gap legislation that resumed IVF treatments in Alabama. RESOLVE’s impact extended further, with invitations to The White House, the 2024 State of the Union, and a presentation before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

CHALLENGE

In the wake of the Dobbs decision, reproductive rights groups warned about the ripple effects it would have on all women’s health including contraception and IVF. In 2022, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association partnered with Fenton to develop a comprehensive advocacy and storytelling campaign to fight back against legislative threats that would restrict or outright ban IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies. A year and a half later, the Alabama Supreme Court issued a first-of-its-kind ruling that paused IVF treatments across the state – thrusting RESOLVE and its network of advocates into the national spotlight.

APPROACH

When the ruling dropped, Fenton mobilized quickly to position RESOLVE to lead the narrative. Through statements, pitches, op-eds and a press conference at the Alabama State House, the team saturated print and broadcast outlets with the perspective of RESOLVE’s leaders, as well as Alabama women who have undergone IVF and fertility doctors whose treatment plans were suspended. RESOLVE quickly became the go-to source for all developments and its framing shaped the national debate.

IMPACT

In just two weeks, Fenton generated over 240 unique stories and 6,300 media hits featuring RESOLVE, its partners and spokespeople. The press event drew more than 200 people and coverage from every major national media outlet, landing on the homepages of the New York Times and CNN. This advocacy fueled the passage of stop-gap legislation that resumed IVF treatments across the state. RESOLVE was invited to The White House and to the 2024 State of the Union address, and selected to present testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Read more about Fenton’s impact in PRWeek.
