Piercing the Bubble
A Climate Ad Series in the Wall Street Journal
A Climate Ad Series in the Wall Street Journal
Partnership for Responsible Growth
The Partnership for Responsible Growth, a bipartisan nonprofit dedicated to advocating for a national price on carbon, decided to pierce this bubble. Fenton raised the funds for, wrote and designed an unprecedented series of 12 ads which ran bi-weekly on the op-ed page. The ads showed the threat climate change poses to liberty, prosperity, health and national security, along with policy and technology solutions, including a price on carbon as a conservative, free-market solution. The campaign shined the spotlight on The Wall Street Journal’s misleading opinion writing on climate change and spurred a column attacking the ads. The ads were covered in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Politico, Huffington Post and Grist.
Fenton built a landing page that housed each ad with citations so the public could verify every assertion. It also included a report by a nonprofit analyzing The Wall Street Journal’s editorial coverage of climate change and the advisory council for the ads.
