We are currently seeking an Associate Vice President within our rapidly growing advertising practice with a passion for making social change, with an emphasis on developing laser-sharp paid media strategies and multicultural media campaigns.

They will play a pivotal role in the strategic direction of our account work and business development activities. This role requires a strategic thinker who can gain a deep understanding of the agency capabilities and has a strong background in online and offline media planning, ad-operations, as well as creative trafficking and storytelling.

The Associate Vice President is responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned accounts and the cultivation of new business. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of integrated media plans, with a strong focus on traditional advertising, client budgets and serving as a relationship manager to clients. It also includes a responsibility to drive $100,000 – $200,000 of attributable revenue as a result of RFP response leadership or from personal networks.

They may supervise internal team members or external members of our extended media planning and implementation team. This position also comes with the expectation to provide recommendations that enhance the performance, culture, and future of the firm. The AVP is also a leader that models to the staff our values of stewarding outstanding client work and collaboration within the firm.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Client Relations

  • As a key client manager, oversee client relationships encompassing managing expectations, determining need to pivot and bringing in senior counsel for problem-solving
  • Develop and oversee integrated media strategies for individual organizations as well as unique work streams within larger cross-communications efforts
  • Create a wide range of high-level communications products including strategic plans, proposals, creation of specific platforms, digital and social media messaging documents, etc.
  • Provide strategic guidance to project teams to ensure quality of produced work

Research and Media Strategy

  • Serve as lead media strategist on accounts ranging from $250,000 – $500,000 in media buys per quarter.
  • Serve as key media support on accounts with greater than $500,000 spend per-quarter.
  • Develop & manage media recommendations by understanding client objectives and translating into KPIs, media strategies & tactics.
  • Responsible for the creation of integrated, data-driven advertising campaigns, including TV, radio, outdoor, programmatic display, social media, CTV, with an emphasis on multicultural/multilingual campaigns.
  • Possess and communicate an understanding of the market dynamics, media consumption data, target audiences, competitive landscape, and messaging strategy for each campaign.
  • Maintain strong relationships with media vendors, as well as internal and external media supervisors to increase knowledge and identify new media opportunities.
  • Make use of available syndicated media research data, and other resources to build the optimal reach, frequency, and media mix.

Media Deployment

  • Develop creative traffic management systems to ensure effective delivery of media to traditional and digital vendors.
  • Oversee internal and external implementation team to ensure media is optimized throughout the slight and insights are reported back to the client.
  • Ensure efficient and clear lines of communication are maintained with all internal and external teams working on each account.

Measurement and Reporting

  • Work closely with external data teams to develop surveys, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and other testing instruments to measure media or creative effectiveness.
  • Responsible for communicating performance of campaigns to the client on a regular basis, while making recommendations on optimizations.
  • Develop comprehensive final reports on campaign performance, both in terms of outputs against benchmarks and results of RCTs.

New Business:

  • Responsible for $100,000 – $200,000 of personally attributable new-business.
  • Cultivate a personal book of business deriving from new and existing clients.
  • Lead or contribute to the responses to RFPs identified by the candidate or by the firm.
  • Maintain a personal network of potential clients and regularly cultivate relationships with new contacts working in social change.

Qualifications:

  • 8 – 10 years’ experience in strategic media planning, with an emphasis on multicultural media buying.
  • Deep familiarity with the California media market.
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying multicultural media buys in English, Spanish, and AAPI languages.
  • Experience in an advertising agency highly desirable; firm understanding of client billing process, client contracts and customer service
  • Experience planning and managing cross-channel integrated (digital and traditional) paid media campaigns across tv, radio, outdoor, social media, programmatic, and search
  • Understanding how advertising can work in partnership with organic tactics like press-outreach, field, email, SMS, and guerilla marketing , etc)
  • Familiar with best practices in managing lead acquisition programs
  • Demonstrated business development, including proposal development, pitching and landing new business skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and interact and perform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively – both verbal and nonverbal, with various levels of staff, clients, contractors, and media
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, optimism, and flexibility in approach to project assignment
