Our clients are foundations, advocacy groups and global brands. We develop and execute strategic public awareness campaigns and offer a wide range of communications services including campaign messaging, media relations, digital strategy, and branding.
  
Overview:
We are in search of a highly talented and strategic Associate Vice President, Creative Director with a focus on Advertising to lead creative for our paid media campaigns from concept to execution. This pivotal role requires a blend of creativity and analytical skill, specializing in advertising copywriting, creative planning, and translating research into evidence-based strategies. The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and a hands-on doer, with a preference for those based in California.
  
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Campaign Concepting – Lead the development of innovative advertising campaign concepts, ensuring they align with client strategic objectives and brand voice. This may include ideating spec work for prospective clients.  
  • Advertising Copywriting – Craft captivating and concise advertising copy for a variety of platforms, including print, digital/social media, scripts for video and radio, and more. Coach peers and more junior staff in development of these skills.
  • Message Development – Develop impactful messaging narratives for large campaigns, ensuring consistent communication across all assets and platforms.
  • Design – Mockup campaign concepts to demonstrate approach and feasibility, or to get client buy-in on direction.
  • Creative Planning – Develop and organize creative assets for large paid advertising campaigns, including adapting variations across platforms and language.
  • Strategic Leadership – Derive insights from market research, including attitudinal, psychographic and media consumption data, into data effective advertising strategies, guiding both concept and content direction.
  • Team Collaboration – Work closely with account, advertising, and creative teams to steer campaigns to successful completion.
  • Client Engagement – Contribute constructively in client meetings, leading concept presentations and fostering strong relationships through effective communication.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience (preferably within a public relations agency; some in-house experience is great, especially if your work was immersed in Fenton’s community of clients – campaigns, issue advocacy, foundations and nonprofits).
  • A deep knowledge and passion for social impact and progressive issues.
  • Proven experience as a leader in creative advertising, with a robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in campaign concepting and advertising copywriting.
  • Strong ability to combine creative thinking with strategic analysis, translating complex research into compelling advertising strategies.
  • Exceptional writing skills across a range of formats, from short-form copy for banners and social media to long-form content for direct mailers and flyers.
  • Design know-how and familiarity with creative best practices across a wide range of online and offline advertising formats including: TV/CTV, radio, outdoor, and digital display.
  • Understanding of nuances between awareness, persuasion, direct response, and behavior change campaigns.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams and leading creative sessions.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements.
  • Collaborative nature and client-service orientation. 
  • Preference for candidates based in California, reflecting a commitment to closely collaborate with our team and clients within the region.

  • Starting Salary = $125,000
  • Starting salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.

  • We have adopted a hybrid remote/in-office worksite model. We require all employees to live within a 35-mile radius of any one of our four strategic hubs (New York, D.C, LA or SF).  You have the option to work remotely from your home and will travel to Company meetings/events as needed, or you can work from any one of our shared workspaces.
