Our New York office is currently seeking a communications savvy Account Executive with a passion for making social change.  Preferred candidates will have 3-4 years of experience in project support, research, media relations and social media campaigns in public interest advocacy or social justice communications setting or demonstrated equivalent experience.

The Account Executive (AE) plays a foundational role within the agency’s account teams. The AE role serves as a springboard to a career at the communications industry. The AE will work closely with more senior level team members to grow an understanding of the business by performing a range of assignments across writing, editing, media relations, event coordination, pitch development, and message development.
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Core Duties

  • Executing a variety of public relations and campaign tactics including: Pitching mid to high level reporters–including wires services, major regional papers, editors, producers, columnists
  • Overseeing production on media lists and media summaries
  • Tracking of news coverage
  • Organizing and staffing press events and editorial board visits
  • Writing press releases and advisories, pitch memos, facts sheets, op-eds and other press materials as assigned
  • Conducting research and providing topline analysis
  • Mentoring and training Account Coordinator and Fellows
  • Participating in regular staff and team meetings – providing input and feedback on business improvement, including client service staff development, and office procedures
  • Drafting a range of media materials such as news alerts, news releases, pitch letters, case histories, by-liners, op-eds, etc.
  • Developing editorial calendars
  • Developing and proposing tactics that further clients’ objectives.
  • Supporting new business pitches through a wide-range of activities such as contribution of research or program ideas
  • Conducting client relations on specific tasks – such as obtaining approval for expenses
  • Delegating tasks to Account Coordinators and Fellows when appropriate Performing basic budgeting for client accounts
  • Drafting work plans
  • Participating in new business development as assigned such as research and/or writing support for proposals

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelors’ degree in Public Relations, Communications, Advertising, Political Science, English or related field
  • Three to four years’ experience with public interest advocacy, nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, campaigns or public affairs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards, principles, and techniques of public relations, communications and social activism
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and digital media
  • Demonstrated ability to pitch and service clients
  • Ability to efficiently multitask under tight deadlines
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Entourage), LexisNexis, and internet research skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively – both verbal and nonverbal, with various levels of staff, clients, contractors and media
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, optimism and flexibility in approach to project assignments
  • Ability to interact and meet client and team expectations in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
