Green Leaders Put the Environment Back on the National Agenda at the 2013 Green Inaugural Ball

By Stephanie Rendon and Sahar Wali

For one week every four years, DC buzzes with the energy of New York City and gets glam Los Angeles-style. This year, Fenton DC was proud to help our clients the National Wildlife Federation make the most of their green carpet moment at the 2013 Green Inaugural Ball.

Fenton sponsored the event and brought top leaders from across the country together to celebrate the past four years of accomplishment under President Obama in the environment and green technology space, and take a look forward to the next four years. More importantly, we helped the green community take center stage the night before the inauguration. The ball was featured live on CNN and CBS and generated coverage from top national media outlets, including the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Politico, The Hill, Bloomberg, Huffington Post, and more. More than 60 reporters covered the Ball; their stories featured the event from a variety of angles, not just environmental.

The night got even better with a surprise visit by Vice President Joe Biden, who made a promise to tackle climate change during the second term. Fenton worked with NWF to bring many special guests to the event, including seven cabinet secretaries, numerous high-level White House staff and many Senators and Members of Congress.

The event, held at the Newseum, was produced by Chris Wayne and Associates and featured performances by seven-time Grammy Award winner will.i.am, The Voice’s Nicholas David, Onree Gill, Mayer Hawthorne, Paul Winter, Trombone Shorty, Camp Freddy and (Fenton’s very own Pedro’s favorite) famed Latin percussionist Sheila E.

Other notable attendees included: Bill Nye the Science guy, The West Wing’s Melissa Fitzgerald, current and former Washington Redskins players, and actor/comedian Wayne Brady. For a full list of attendees, click here.

A blog post wouldn’t be complete without some glamorous photos, of course. So for your viewing pleasure, here are a couple shots of the Fenton team looking fabulous:

How are you going to be at an event with Bill Nye and not get a photo with him? Here we are (Sarah, Sharon and Stephanie) with our favorite science guy.

The Green Ball had an awesome photo booth! Here’s a pic with the awesome Miles Grant from NWF.

More photo booth fun.

Sahar and Iavor on the “green” carpet.

Here’s Sharon with Richard Schiff from the West Wing. Sharon says: “Please note that this was a life changing moment for me as someone who has watched every episode of the West Wing an embarrassing number of times.”

We didn’t think Pedro would get his drumsticks signed by Sheila E., but he did. Here he is proudly holding them up with Sahar.

Last but not least (we are missing Sahar and Iavor, but they were here in spirit). Pedro wanted me to note how cool he looks here.
