Tania Mercado is a Vice President at Fenton, where she brings her experience in media relations, state government, and multicultural marketing to help clients develop and manage public affairs, issue advocacy campaigns, and reputation management solutions. Tania previously managed media relations for the California Department of Justice, where she served in communications offices for now-Vice President Kamala Harris and now-U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.
Tania has served as a spokesperson on high-profile immigration cases involving DACA, family separation policies, conditions in immigration detention centers and more. Her areas of expertise also include criminal justice and law enforcement matters like racial profiling and implicit bias, hate crimes, data transparency, use of force, and more.
Tania has experience working on other civil rights matters including sexual assault, women’s reproductive rights, labor rights, voting rights, Native American affairs, and LGBTQ issues such as
workplace discrimination, and same-sex marriage.
