Account Coordinator | LA
Aparna Balakumar is an Account Coordinator at Fenton, where she combines her passion for writing, storytelling and public affairs with a desire to take action and create lasting impact for social causes including women’s rights, racial justice and education for all. Aparna supports the account teams in conceptualizing, creating and actioning progressive awareness campaigns that give room for pause in a fast-paced world.
Aparna has always been geared towards using her work to empower others, first as a United Nations Youth Ambassador and more recently in Washington DC within the Public Affairs and Media branch of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Before joining Fenton, Aparna worked in Marketing and Communications for Microsoft Australia. There, she co-founded the AI-themed case competition ‘Women Tech Charge’ and owned the communications strategy for the country’s first ‘Giving Month’ philanthropies campaign. Aparna has also worked as an international journalist in Korea, in addition to breaking award-winning national investigations on sexual misbehavior that have contributed to Human Rights Commission reviews. Aparna graduated as a Merit Scholar from the University of Sydney with a degree in Media & Communications and a major in Cultural Studies. She studied abroad at UCLA and UCDC and still gets a kick out of surprising Americans with her accent!
